Geometry & Measures

Geometry and measures is the most visual unit on the GCSE and the one where careful diagram work is rewarded. It spans angle rules, polygons, area and perimeter, circles, surface area and volume, similarity and congruence, transformations, constructions, bearings and vectors. Questions range from single-mark angle facts to full multi-step problems combining several of these ideas.

Angle facts, parallel lines and polygons are near-guaranteed marks on both tiers and worth over-learning. Area and volume, especially of prisms, cylinders, spheres and cones, appear on every paper. Similar shapes, circle theorems and vectors are the Higher-tier topics that carry the most marks and the most difficulty. Trigonometry is treated as its own unit. Start with the angle rules, since almost every harder geometry question uses them somewhere.
